Cricket News sort by England vs India, 3rd Test at Leeds, Aug 25-29, 2021

England head coach Chris Silverwood has stated that England captain Joe Root learnt from his mistakes in the Lord's Test and made the adjustments at Headingley. England dominated the Lord’s Test but some baffling tactics on the last day saw them lose focus and concede the Test by 151 runs. The hosts, however, hit back hard at Headingley and trampled India by an innings and 76 runs to level the five-match series 1-1.

Indian captain Virat Kohli said that he would not pick on any particular issue as the reason for defeat after India went down to England by an innings and 76 runs on Day 4 of the Headingley Test. Instead, Kohli commented that India ‘fail as a team and win as a team’. He conceded that they failed in the third Test.

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has said that there has not been any chat at all about Cheteshwar Pujara’s form in the dressing room. According to Rohit, all the talk has been on the outside but within the team, everyone is in full backing of Pujara.

Team India pacer Mohammed Shami refused to comment too much on off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s non-inclusion for the third India-England Test at Headingley. Ashwin was not picked in the playing XI for the first two Tests as well.

England fast bowler James Anderson has admitted that they were hugely disappointed following the 151-run loss to India at Lord’s. He added that the team as a whole got over it and prepared for the next challenge ahead. England were all over India on Day 1 of the Headingley Test on Wednesday. Anderson led the way picking up the first three wickets for England as India were bowled out for 78. Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns then featured in an unbeaten 120-run partnership to complete England’s day of domination.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar feels it will be very difficult for England to make a comeback in the series after the manner in which they lost at Lord’s. England dominated the Test for most part but succumbed to pressure on the last day to go down by 151 runs. Gavaskar believes the Lord’s defeat would have dented the hosts psychologically, from which they will find it tough to recover.
